Can Somebody Explain This To Me Please (Sword Mods)
I just ran The Deep & got an Oni Blade from a chest as shown below:
As you can see though, I am able to remove both mods from the sword. I thought that in Prophecies & Cantha, you couldn't get inscribable weapons & you weren't able to remove all the mods from a weapon, because one of the mods was permanent on it, which is why finding a 15^50 non inscribable weapon is so good. What does this mean? Am I only able to add 2 mods to the sword? I'm guessing it's pretty worthless as I'll never be able to give it 15^50, 20/20, +30 due to the fact that there is no such thing as a non inscription 15^50 upgrade. I actually got a couple of weapons like this in there, with just 2 mods on that were able to be removed & I don't quite understand it. Swords are capable of having 3 mods on them, but because there isn't a permanent mod on this sword such as an inherent 15^50, will I only be able to upgrade it with 2 mods? Therefore I'm assuming it will be pretty worthless Last edited by whufc89; Apr 13, 2008 at 10:00 PM // 22:00.. |

That's just bad luck, but happens quite often, even in Elona and EotN.
I've had a Celestial, Elemental Sword, Greater Sage Blade, Jagged Reaver... without damage mod (Inscription Slot) drop in the last months.... (All of them also had a Slaying mod on it) And yes, you won't be able to put a 15^50 on it. The Demon Slaying Mod on your Weapon is qute wanted, so you should salvage that one. The Sword itself is pretty much worthless. . Last edited by take_me; Apr 13, 2008 at 10:15 PM // 22:15.. |

Tyrian and Canthan weapons are inherent, meaning the damage modifiers (15^50, 15stance, +5 energy etc..) are permanently fixed.
They sometimes drop without any inherent modifier rendering the base item pretty much worthless (unless a rare skin such as Crystaline). Simply |

The "permanent" mod you speak of is what people call the inherent damage mod. Canthan and Tyrian drops usually have a damager modifier (ie 15^50, 15 while enchanted, 15 while in stance, etc). With Nightfall, this was changed to an inscription system so now the damage modifier can be pulled off.
All Tyrian and Canthan swords can have a hilt (prefix) and pommel (suffix) mod. Items dropped from the Deep and Urgoz chests can also be inscribable so an inscription can be added. Seems like you just had the bad luck to get an item without an inscription slot and without the damage modifier. |

The hilt(icy) and pommel(demonslaying) are weapon mods/upgrades, they are not inscriptions. What you have there is not an inscribable sword, just a regular sword without an inherent and two weapon mods.
Weapon mods can be added to all weapons and are not limited to those found in NF and EoTN. Inscriptions, however can only be added to those weapons that drop in NF and EoTN(with a few exceptions) with an inscription slot(the slot takes the place of the inherent). Quote:

Note, however, that you can salvage those 2 mods on that sword (if you're lucky and don't destroy it while salvaging the 1st mod) and then apply them to another sword with an inherent mod or inscription slot.
That 20% vs Demons would go nicely on a cheap 15^50 that you wouldn't mind customizing for an additional 20% damage; add your LB damage bonus and you'd have a nice weapon to use in Torment. |

Also note:
http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Weapon_upgrades Shields, focus items, and wands found outside the Nightfall campaign cannot be upgraded. The modifiers on shields, focus items, and wands found in other parts of the game are fixed and can't be salvaged or replaced with other upgrade components. |
